The State Development and Investment Corporation (SDIC) has started trial operation at its second 50mt/yr coal terminal at Caofeidian port in Hebei, having completed building work in July.

The project includes two 150,000t berths, one 100,000t berth, one 70,000t berth, one 50,000t berth, and ancillary storage facilities. It is designed to increase Caofeidian's coal capacity to 100mt/yr.

The capacity will eventually be lifted to 350mt/yr by 2016, after the completion of another five 50mt/yr coal terminals, according to plans.

Caofeidian currently operates one 50mt/yr coal terminal. Coal handling in 2011 amounted to 51.96mt, representing a year-on year rise of 26.73%.
